Virtual Learning Option 21-22

Virtual Learning Option 21-22

Dear Spartan Families,

As stated previously, our goal is to return to in-person learning for all students.  For the last 13 months, it has been incredibly challenging to predict community conditions as a result of this pandemic.  It continues to be challenging to predict what the fall will look like.  At this time, we are planning to have on-site learning for all students in grades 4K-12, five days a week.  Daily schedules will look similar to the start of the 2019-2020 school year.

In a recent survey to current full virtual families, we learned that many families, regardless of the learning plan for next year, are interested in a full virtual option for their child for the 2021-22 school.  Families are choosing this option for several different reasons (COVID-19 concerns, recent success in this model, etc.).  We have created an enrollment process for families who want to enroll their child in a full virtual option for the 2021-22 school year.  This option will be available to students in grades K-12. The enrollment window for this learning option for 2021-22 is May 3 through May 21.  Students who enroll in a virtual option will be committing to this option for the 2021-22 school year.  It is imperative we know which students are enrolling in the full virtual option this spring so we can plan for staffing by assigning or hiring virtual teachers and developing school schedules. It is important to note that this learning option is only open to Superior School District families.  The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction does not allow school districts to enroll students into a full online learning option without becoming a charter school.  We are not looking at this option for our district.

Virtual learning will look different next year.  Much of the structure for virtual learning is dependent on the number of students that enroll in this option next year.  Below outlines some of the plans for next year:

  • Students will receive 5 days of instruction in grades K-12.
  • Students are expected to engage in learning the same amount of instructional minutes and hours as on-site students
  • There will be required time for live (synchronous) instruction as well as some independent (asynchronous) work time.
  • Students should have a history of good grades and good attendance in a virtual setting if considering this as an option for 2021-22.  Students who have not had success in this model will be expected to attend school in-person.
We have attached this resource to provide more information about this option for next year.

If you are interested in enrolling your child in this option for next year, please complete the attached form before the end of the day on May 21.  Please contact your school principal if you have questions.

Lastly, before and after school registration for the 2021-22 school for elementary students is also available.  For more information, click here
